This hands-free system offers enhanced anti-theft capabilities over existing systems.
In a hands-free system, the vehicle and the key communicate wirelessly to lock and unlock the steering lock and to start the engine.
With conventional schemes that rely only on simple radio responses,
relaying the signal from a distance can cause the vehicle to mistake it for the genuine key.
In recent years, thefts using such relay devices have been reported.
Security enhancement through added functionality
In addition to the signaling between the vehicle and the key, this product adds a distance-measurement function. While exchanging messages, the vehicle and key measure their distance accurately and enable functions only when communication occurs near the vehicle. As a result, it is expected to prevent key spoofing by relay devices.
The strength of this approach is that it can measure distance accurately.
It delivers high accuracy on the order of 10–30 cm.
